Apple enables Face ID with Mask and Universal Control in new Beta Updates https://www.digit.in deepak.singh@9dot9.in (Deepak Singh) Apple has finally added a much-awaited feature to the iOS 15.4 Beta and iPad OS 15.4 Beta updates that have started rolling out for developers. iPhone users will be able to unlock using Face ID even with a mask put on. iPadOS and MacOS, on the other hand, will get Universal control that lets users type with Mac Keyboards on iPad simply by placing the iPad next to their Mac PCs.   Use FaceID with a Mask After the update, users will not need an Apple Watch paired with the phone for the unlocking to work. In fact, they will also be able to use Apple Pay, use Autofill in Safari browser, and authenticate third-party app logins while keeping their face masks.  Apple does caution users that the Face ID will be “most accurate” with full face recognition. With the “Use FaceID with a Mask” option enabled, your iPhone will recognize “unique features around the eye area”.     On the downside, this FaceID with Mask option will only be available for iPhone 12 and later. So, iPhone X and iPhone 11 users will have to remain content with FaceID with Apple Watch feature for now which is only limited to unlocking the phone.  iOS 15.4 Beta is now available only for developers and is an official release for masses is expected later in spring.  Also Read: iOS 15.3 brings in fixes for several crucial security vulnerabilities Universal Control  Image Source: MacRumours Universal Control was first announced at WWDC in June 2021. As stated above, the feature allows users to use a single keyboard and mouse for their Mac and iPad (or both) in close proximity. The option is reportedly enabled by default with iPadOS 15.4. The feature uses Apple continuity to establish a connection between the two devices and both should have the same Apple ID logged in.  There is no official word on when Apple will push out the official iPadOS 15.4 and macOS 12.3 update, but we can expect the feature to be available this spring.  https://ift.tt/3GalO4f January 28, 2022 at 05:59PM

New studio called SEE claims that it will start shooting movies and TV shows in space by 2024 https://www.digit.in news@digit.in (Digit NewsDesk) It seems that shooting films on good old Earth is a little too passe. So what’s next? Well, start shooting films in space is the logical answer, of course. A company called Space Entertainment Enterprise has announced that it is going to launch the world’s first zero-gravity studio. The studio will include shooting space as well as a multi-purpose arena. Where this will be built is still up in the air (pun intended), as of now. Dubbed the SEE-1, the studio will have films, TV shows and such being shot there. So, if you’re a filmmaker who wants to shoot in low or zero gravity, SEE-1 is probably your best choice. In fact, the studio is actually co-producing Tom Cruise’s next film, which is set to be shot in space.  Space Entertainment Enterprise announces new studio in space As we earlier reported, Tom Cruise had negotiated a deal with NASA to set his new film on the International Space Station. A tweet from NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine also confirmed the outrageous news. Cruise has just partnered with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and was actually looking at filming his next action-adventure in outer space. If this does happen, it will be the first time in history that a major feature film will be filmed in the cold emptiness of space. Details of the project are still kept tightly under wraps but one thing we do know is that the film will not be a part of the Mission: Impossible series. The actor is known for his daredevil attitude and insistence in performing his own stunts. Remember that Burj Khalifa sequence? Yeah, that was all Tom Cruise and not some stuntman. The guy is 57 years old and still a machine.   SEE-1 will be built by Axiom Space, a company that also received NASA’s approval to construct, design and build the International Space Station’s entertainment module. This could also contribute to the idea of Space Tourism in the near future. As a famous captain once said, “Space, the final frontier”. Well, it looks like it’s not going to the final frontier for very long.  Also Read: Tom Cruise partners with SpaceX and NASA to shoot a film in outer space https://ift.tt/3tQKtrQ January 21, 2022 at 04:54PM

Meta is retiring the Oculus brand in favour of Project Cambria https://www.digit.in editor@digit.in (Kajoli Anand Puri) Earlier today, Facebook announced that it is now rebranding itself as Meta, making it the second time this week the tech giant has reinforced its intention to build a Metaverse. The Meta branding will leak into multiple products, starting with the Oculus brand. Meta announced that Oculus Quest will now be rebranded as Meta Quest, and the Oculus App will now be called the Meta Quest App. What is Project Cambria? "We all have a strong attachment to the Oculus brand, and this was a very difficult decision to make," Bosworth said. "While we’re retiring the name, I can assure you that the original Oculus vision remains deeply embedded in how Meta will continue to drive mass adoption for VR today."  Meta Announces Project Cambria In line with this announcement, Meta has also revealed that its VR headset will now be referred to as Project Cambria, until its official name is revealed. The high-end VR headset is going to help make the Metaverse a reality, by allowing your virtual avatar to mimic your expressions in real time and maintain eye contact. It will also offer mixed-reality experiences by using algorithms that will let it represent objects in the physical world with an accurate sense of depth and perspective. Cambria’s new optics will help it maintain visual fidelity, which is extremely important when talking about a convincing mixed reality experience.
